Do you remember what you said in 1983 about former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s attempt to pack the court in his favor by adding six new Justices to the U.S. Supreme Court?
You said, "It was a bonehead idea! .... It put in question … the independence of the most significant body in this country, the Supreme Court of the United States of America."
You were right in 1983. You were wrong here in 2021 when you issued an Executive Order creating a "Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States," a supposedly "bipartisan" group of "experts" who have six months to make "recommendations" on adding justices and other changes to the Court.
I do not believe this is a "bipartisan" commission. On the contrary, I believe it is rigged with leftists and all but certain to rubber stamp packing the court … giving Nancy Pelosi the excuse she is looking for to bring the court-packing "Judiciary Act of 2021" to the floor of the House for a vote.
This terrible bill, should it become law, will make true your prediction in 1983. It will forever put into question the independence of the Judiciary branch and end public trust in the Supreme Court.
Therefore, I urge you to heed the words you spoke in 1983.
I urge you to dismantle your Commission, tell Nancy Pelosi not to bring "The Judiciary Act of 2021" up for a vote, and to publicly condemn the very idea of court-packing.
